FAQs

You need to hold a degree, or be due to complete a degree by the time you will commence your School Direct programme. Your degree can be in any subject, as long as the classification (or expected classification) is 2:2 or above.

In some circumstances it may be possible to accept candidates with a degree classification of 2:2 or less. If you do not hold a 2:2 or above and wish to apply, please contact us first to discuss the possibility of this otherwise your application will be automatically rejected.

It is not an essential requirement, but is strongly recommended. Please click here to find out about how we may be able to support your school experience.

Primary trainees will teach those aged between 3 and 11. Secondary trainees will teach those aged between 11 – 16. Your teaching workload increases gradually in line with the development of your skills and knowledge and you will be supported every step of the way. A key element is that you will have ownership of your own classes.

All trainees can benefit from our Skills Test Workshops which provide help and advice to ensure that you pass these crucial tests. If you are a trainee who has successfully being offered and accepted a place, these are free of charge.

All trainees must be able to commute to our dedicated training centre in Halifax. If you need a placement school closer to your home location, please contact us and we will do our very best to source a placement school that meets your location needs.

If your school is willing to sign up as a School Direct partner, then we are happy to accommodate specific requests where trainees are already employed. We suggest that you contact us to discuss this prior to making an application.

Some shortage subjects offer a salaried position where you can earn whilst you learn. However, a wide range of support and bursaries including Student Loans can make training to teach a viable option – we suggest that you contact us if you would like further advice and support.

Our trainees are available to speak to prospective applicants at a number of our events – why not pop along and say hello? Our case studies also provide a useful insight. If you would like to have a chat on the phone to one of our trainees, then please contact us and we will be happy to help
